Moving into Stillness
June Weekend Retreat
Integrating traditional movement arts with somatic learning
Saturday and Sunday, June 6th and 7th , 2009

Come experience the in-depth study environment of a retreat with the convenience of being in town. In this workshop we will draw from the age-old practices of Yoga, Meditation, and Qi Gong, as well as modern modalities in the field of somatic education. These will include Feldenkrais (Awareness Through Movement) and explorations in organic and fluid movement. We will discover how to release ineffective patterns of holding to move with more ease and grace. We will also investigate the relationship between posture and movement, and strength and relaxation, to allow the body/mind to “let go” on a deeper level and to access a greater resilience and vitality.

This workshop is open to students with all levels of experience. You can participate in the full workshop or choose parts of it.

Saturday morning, 10 am – 12:30 pm
Feldenkrais & Qi Gong: Releasing the shoulders and upper back to free the neck
Cost: $50

This Feldenkrais (Awareness Through Movement) and Qi Gong session will focus on letting go of habitual tension in the shoulders,arms and upper back. This will help to align and reduce stress and tension in the neck.We will explore mobilizing the ribcage and upper back to soften the chest and shoulders which allows the arms to hang naturally.This promotes deeper breathing and a sense of well-being.This work is gentle,benefical for all,and appropiate for those recovering from pain or injury.

Saturday afternoon, 2 pm – 4:30 pm
Yoga (all levels): Opening the heart and Hips
Cost $50

In this in-depth yoga session we will soften the chest to open the heart and release the hips to root through the legs.We will investigate how to engage core strength which uses the pelvic floor to help release the hips and create the support and foundation for deep heart opening. We will incorporate back-bending, forward bending and spinal twists.
Sunday morning, 10 am – 12:30 pm
Yoga as Moving Meditation
Cost $50
In this flowing yoga session the emphasis will be on awareness and moving effectively without unnecessary effort. We will also incorporate short periods of sitting meditation. Open to everyone.
Full workshop: $125
All day Saturday or both mornings: $90

"MOVE" into Spring, Yoga class, Saturday May 9th 10:00am-12:00

This class will prepare us to move into the activity of spring with ease and grace.
It will include playful variations on the Sun Salutation to improve circulation, flexibility and improve muscle tone.It will also incorporate Pranayama (yogic breathing practices) which integrate body/mind , support optimal organ function and promote a healthy immune system. Open to all levels
