Winter Series begins Wed, Jan 4th

I hope everyone is enjoying some R&R during the holidays, and wish you a wonderful beginning to the New year!

I will be starting right up on Wednesday, January 4th with the next 4 week series.
I will leave on Jan 31st to teach in Sweden, and want to get a full month of classes in before I leave.
When I return I will sit for a one week Zen meditation retreat with my teacher Shodo Harada Roshi at Whidbey Island monastery. The second series will begin on Saturday, February 25th.
I'm encouraging everyone to get themselves to class at the start of the new series, so we can begin the year with energy and vitality. I also want to remind you that after this series I will be away until February 25th, when I will start the next session.

Winter Solstice Meditation & Qi Gong

Wednesday morning, December 21st @ 8 - 9:30am 2011

Free event....all are welcome!

You are invited to join together to practice Qi Gong and sit in meditation on the morning of the solstice.
Astronomically Winter Solstice marks the beginning of the shortening of nights and the lengthening of days, so this is the longest night of the year!
Solstice derives from Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still). It is a potent time for quietude and reflection as well as celebration, as we transition into Winter and the gradual return of light!
This is a great opportunity to take some "TIME OUT" in this busy holiday season to support each other in sitting with vitality!

Approximate schedule:

Please arrive at 8am to set up for sitting.
We will start with 10 minutes Qi Gong
Then we will chant the Heart Sutra
1st round of sitting 15-20 minutes
followed by 20 minutes Qi Gong
2nd round of sitting 15-20 minutes

Afterwards tea & treats will be served and there will be time to hang out together.

All are welcome.... Please bring a Zafu / meditation cushion (if you have one)
There are plenty of sticky mats & blankets at studio for padding under sitting cushions
Chairs are available there if you want to use one
I will have extras cushions there if you don't have one

Please feel free to bring a friend or family member.....no experience is necessary

We will learn to release holding patterns in our neck and shoulders with gentle and playful movements. Building on this theme we will also explore movement to help us to relax and open our chest. These movement explorations will improve posture and increase mobility in the neck, shoulders and upper back. This helps us to reduce overall body tension and breath more deeply. Deep relaxation and breathing nourish and calm our whole nervous system and are a perfect antidote to the busy holiday season and cold weather!

This session is open to everyone and appropriate for those with pain or injury.

Sunday morning November 6th: Yoga (all levels)
9:30am-12noon
Through Yoga postures we will investigate the same focus of releasing shoulder tension to improving flexibility and alignment in the neck, spine and shoulder girdle. This will include spinal elongation, twists and gentle back-bends.
We will also incorporate yogic breathing exercises to increase awareness, relaxation and reduce stress.
This is a great opportunity to refine and deepen your Yoga practice.

This session is open to students with varied levels of Yoga experience.

There is no experience necessary to participate in Qi Gong or Feldenkrias. Both are gentle modalities appropriate to people of all ages and activity levels. The Yoga classes will be mixed, open to all levels of experience.

Delicious Vegetarian meals and snacks will be served. Sleeping accommodations will be dormitory or camping.

Rinsan (head monk) will be leading Zazen meditation.

Suggested donation for the whole weekend is $200 - $350. Please donate as you can......this is a guideline and you are welcome to contribute at any level. 100% of all donations go to benefit the Monastery and are tax deductible.

You are invited to join us in coming together to sit, to welcome the upcoming longest night of the year!

The solstice is on December 21st, so we will be meeting a couple days before the actual date. Everyone is welcome, and no previous experience in Meditation or Qi Gong is necessary.

Special Focus Yoga Classes (All levels)

In these special focus yoga classes, Treya incorporates her extensive background as a somatic educator with her many years of practicing and teaching yoga and meditation. These classes combine the intelligence of effective skeletal alignment with the subtle energetics of deep body awareness. Fun and informative, they are appropriate for students of all levels of experience.


November 20, 2010 Finding Balance and Stability – Warrior and Balance Poses

Stability, or rooting through the legs, and balance go hand in hand. To find balance without effort, we must understand how to open our hips and use our legs to connect to the earth, allowing the torso and spine to release upward and be free. In this class we will juxtapose warrior poses with balance poses to explore the relationship between earth and sky, and rooting and expanding.


December 4, 2010 Letting Go… Into Forward Bending

Forward bending is about deeply folding in the hips. It is a practice of letting go and allowing the entire back and spine to open and lengthen. This also includes releasing from the spine through the back of the legs and into the arms. It is a total body release. Through breath and awareness, we are invited to go more deeply into our internal environment: softening the muscles, opening the joints, and quieting the mind. This asana relaxes the back, supports kidney function, and opens the hips. It is soothing, calming, and revitalizing. A great preparation as we move into the busy holiday season.
