September 26th Downward Dog in Depth

In this class we will explore and refine key points and details of body alignment in this very popular asana. We will learn to elongate the spine, open the shoulders, and free the pelvis to lengthen the hamstrings. Downward dog is one of the most beneficial postures for the whole body. Lots of fun, all levels of experience welcome.


November 7th Shoulderstands for Everyone

Shoulderstand is one of the most accessible of the inverted postures, with many benefits. These include improving circulation, digestion, and elimination, as well as relief from fatigue and insomnia. It calms the mind and has a soothing and energizing effect on the body. We will explore both simplified variations for the beginner, as well as the full pose in detail for the more experienced student.

December 5th Backbends for a Healthy Spine

In this class we will focus on various backbends to create strength and flexibility in the whole spine. We will explore proper skeletal alignment, use of the deep abdominal core, and how to relax the low back and open the chest. We will learn variations appropriate for all levels of experience. Everyone is welcome.

Integrating traditional movement arts with somatic learning


Saturday and Sunday, October 10th & 11th, 2009

Come experience the in-depth study environment of a retreat with the convenience of being in town. In this workshop we will draw from the age-old practices of yoga, meditation, and Qi Gong, as well as modern modalities in the field of somatic education. These will include Feldenkrais (Awareness Through MovementTM) and explorations in organic and fluid movement.


We will discover how to release ineffective patterns of holding to move with more ease and grace. We will also investigate the relationship between posture and movement, and strength and relaxation, to allow the body/mind to “let go” on a deeper level and to access a greater resilience and vitality. This workshop is open to students with all levels of experience. You can participate in the full workshop or choose parts of it.


Saturday morning, 10 am - 12:30 pm

Feldenkrais & Qi Gong: Freeing the chest and releasing the spine

Cost: $50


In this Feldenkrais (Awareness Through MovementTM) and Qi Gong session we will focus on relaxing and mobilizing the chest and upper back to release and lengthen the whole spine. We will explore the natural curves of the spine, which create a suspension system to support optimal posture, deep relaxed breathing and a sense of ease in function. This work is gentle, beneficial for all, and appropriate for those recovering from pain or injury. Open to everyone.


Saturday afternoon, 2 pm - 4:30 pm

Yoga (all levels): Lengthening from head to tail

Cost $50


In this in-depth yoga session we will use various yoga asanas to elongate the spine. This will decompress the neck and back, creating ease of posture. We will also focus on strengthening the deep paraspinal muscles, which support a relaxed and healthy spine. We will incorporate back-bending, forward-bending and spinal twists.


Sunday morning, 10 am - 12:30 pm

Yoga as Moving Meditation

Cost $50


In this flowing yoga session the emphasis will be on awareness and moving effectively without unnecessary effort. We will also incorporate short periods of sitting meditation. Open to everyone.


Pre-pay by October 7rd. Full workshop: $125

All day Saturday or both mornings: $90
